Review: Up in the Air

The first half of this film is magnificent: the character arcs are impeccably plotted. Every scene is a haiku. And Clooney’s ever-charming, ageing face sums up everything that’s going to happen. This early brilliance renders the second half completely unnecessary. What a shame the second half exists.

Do go see the film. But walk out just before you begin to feel there’s going to be a happy ending.
