The film finds John, Paul, George and Ringo racing around swinging London, chased by fans and harassed by their manager and Paul’s grandad (Steptoe’s Wilfred Bramble). The film was made as a bit of knockabout fun, but has since been reassessed as a piece of great cinema.

“Great band, great music, great film. Not only that, it remains a fascinating portrait of Britain on the cusp of change.” Empire

“Energetic, irreverent and witty as it wryly celebrates Beatlemania. Richard Lester’s New Wave-y camera and cutting effects convey the heady freshness of a new dawn for British pop. The songs, played with typically unflashy expertise, are mostly timeless” Time Out

“Today when we watch TV and see quick cutting, hand-held cameras, interviews conducted on the run with moving targets, quickly intercut snatches of dialogue, music under documentary action and all the other trademarks of the modern style, we are looking at the children of A Hard Day’s NightRoger Ebert
